A creative link between timelessness and modernity
The meeting between Lafont and Louis-Marie is not a coincidence, it corresponds to a renewed interest in work clothes, linked to a need for roots and authenticity. Always on the lookout for market trends, Louis-Marie de Castelbajac was born in the crucible of creation. His universe is as vast as his passions and curiosity. Using multiple media to convey his ideas, this multi-faceted artist-entrepreneur connects his many projects through his ability to assimilate a story, a DNA and reinterpret them with style, in a universe based on spirit, style and, above all, authenticity.
For the first time, Lafont is entering the ready-to-wear market with a collection that juxtaposes the brand’s universes: originality, creativity, color, quality of materials and manufacturing, combining heritage and know-how.

“I chose the blue and black version because it reminds me of the jacket I used to have in the garage – well, the other one was probably not as nice actually… I like the idea of this color combination, whereas usually these jackets are quite boring in terms of colors. This one has a different feel to it that I like and I sometimes keep it on when I go out of the garage for drinks, as long as it’s not too dirty. If only I could get another warmer one for winter, that would be perfect.”

“Without looking any further, I’ve always spontaneously worn overalls because I work 24 hours a day: it’s practical, comfortable, quite resistant, quite nice – I think it’s now part of my character. So I immediately recognized the additions on this new version of Lafont, like the little reflective stripes for example, even if the jacket keeps all the codes of the workwear. I don’t wear it just to look good: it’s more of a tool than a showpiece! As a craftsman, this jacket has something really noble because it highlights manual work and represents jobs where know-how is earned through experience. Compared to a suit and tie, I’ve never blushed to wear it.”

“Usually I wear something more classic, with a Mao collar and black piping. This Lafont jacket is of a much more luxurious quality, a bit old-fashioned, and it enhances the value of my work, which is quite special because I am in charge of production and not a chocolate maker. In other words, I really work from the cocoa bean, from its very matter, from its flavors, from the lively side of the earth. So the jacket is a good fusion between the almost industrial side of my job and the chocolate maker side. I really get into it…”

“Despite the pretty flower thing, I’m in a physical job where you get dirty, handling dirty things, so you need to protect yourself. My colleagues often wear an apron, but I don’t, so I mess up my clothes because there is no uniform for florists and I would feel like I was camouflaging myself with a blouse. So I even wear my Lafont jacket every day, well beyond the professional setting, because it also matches my wardrobe: that’s what I like about it… And it’s very practical at work, thanks to the size of the pockets that allow me to store everything – my pruning shears, my knives, my dishcloth – not to mention the pockets on the back so that I have everything within reach when I’m on a ladder, for example. It’s rare to find these on a jacket!”
